Seeing Andrew Luck rally his team back in the second half was an NFL coronation for sure. But two things I found even more satisfactory: Reggie Wayne balling for 200+ yards and realizing that Lucklooks like a rounder faced version of Michael Phelps (goofball qualities near equal).
Major salute to Chiefs OL Eric Winston for his post-game speech. We’ve all taken shots at Matty Cassel, but it still doesn’t mean he deserves to receive mock cheers after getting laid out by Haloti Ngata and left for dead. You can watch Winston’s well thought out statement here.
Cam Newton did face Seattle, but his play continues to be suspect (airball TD passes don’t get it done). I saluted him last year when he came out guns blazing, but I always entered the caveat that he was as much a product of good preparation and the lockout as he was his talent. A year later with footage to disperse, and a full training camp for defenses to load up, he looks not even a shadow of the rookie that took the league by storm.
When I saw Kirk Cousins throw the 70+ yard bomb to Santana Moss, I thought for a second RG3 might get Wally Pipped…then he threw two picks in crunch time and the thrill was gone like B.B. King.
Ryan Fitzpatrick: $24 million guaranteed. 2 fantasy points.
When Randy Moss complained about a deal a few years back “the hoodie” put him in decoy mode. Wes wanted his cash extension this off-season so he had to be tamed too. Guess phase out is over for Welker: 13 catches, 104 YDS, TD.
Andrew Luck will be in the Hall of Fame some day. Some have laughed when I’ve said this because of how ridiculous it sounds, but it’s the command of the game and poise he’s shown already. Colts were down 21-3 at the half against Green Bay and outscored them 27-6 in the 2nd half while Luck threw for 362, 2 TDs, an even a rushing score. Just remember how bad this team was last year and look at how competitive they’ve been so far this year. The kid is amazing.
From one potential Hall of Famer to a guy that has absolutely no chance. Cam Newton was brutal at home against Seattle and seems to be getting worse every week. There was a point where he had almost as many rushing yards as he did passing, and that was in the 2nd half. He ended 12/29, 141 YDS, 42 Rush YDS, 0 TD and a 16-12 loss. The Panthers are 1-4, how’s that Super Bowl ad looking now Ryan Kalil?
